Chuck Sneddon
 
Susette Tibus, a native Connecticut resident, began her business career in the late 1970s. She and her husband, Chuck Sneddon, own and operate Majestic Jewelers at 80 Stonington Road in Mystic. They have been in business together for 15 years.

Susette worked for the national jewelry chain, Kay DeRoy Jewelers from 1979 to 1990, paving the way for women to achieve entry-level management positions in the jewelry industry. A graduate of the Diamond Council of America (DCA), she won several National Top Sales Awards for the company and was instrumental in designing the training programs for future managers.

Susette was born to immigrant parents Cres and Tina Tibus. Cres, a WWII veteran and submariner, owned and operated Esquire Barber Shop in Uncasville. Tina was a kindergarten school teacher and home maker.

Raised in Mystic, Susette has always taken an active interest in what is going on in her community. She is past president of Olde Mistick Village Merchants' Association, past president of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce and past chair of the National Athena Award, an award dedicated to supporting, developing, and honoring women leaders.

Susette has also volunteered her time and energy to many local events in the area, including the Taste of Mystic, Chocolate Affair, Chowder Festival, Winter Festival and the Ocean Commotion Gala. One of her most memorable events was the Doolittle Raiders Reunion - honoring the Raiders who attacked Japan on April 18, 1942.

Currently, Susette co-chairs the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, co-hosts the public access TV Program, "Mystic Matters" and chairs the St. Edmund's Medal of Honor award for Ender's Island. She is a member of the advisory boards for the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce and the Mystic Aquarium Institute for Exploration. She also serves on the SECTER (Southeastern Connecticut Enterprise Region) Board and is a corporator for Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and the Westerly Hospital. In addition, she is a board of directors member of the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center and the New England Filipino American Association. Susette also proudly serves as a Stonington Police Commissioner.

Susette devotes her time and enthusiasm to all of these organizations as an excellent way to make a difference in the community she loves. Susette resides with her husband, Chuck, in Stonington.

 

Chuck Sneddon started with Holman Jewelers in 1977 as a jeweler and a management trainee. In 1979, Chuck became the manager of the Westhall Company. During his 15 year tenure, the company grew to become Westhall/Sterling. Chuck left Westhall in 1992 after multiple promotions and was the Vice President of Northeast Operations upon his resignation.

Chuck is very active in the jewelry community as well as his local community of the Mystic/Stonington area. Chuck has been certified as a trainer of DCA Diamontology, and DCA Gemology by the Diamond Council of America. He is the past president of the Olde Mistick Village Merchant's Assocation, the chair of the Stonington Route 1 corridor committee and serves as the chairman of the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission. In addition, Chuck serves on the Stonington Republican Town Committee, Stonington Capitol Improvement Planning committee and the committee to write and develop Stonington's Plan of Conservation and development. Chuck is politically active both in the aforementioned town committees and is equally active in state politics.

He is actively in support of Ender's Island, wildlife preservation, AAU & student athletics and believes in conservative political action. He enjoys wooden boat restoration, hunting, fishing, karate and cooking.

Chuck resides with his wife and Majestic partner, Susette Tibus in Stonington.
